Comments: Notes for Reuben Morgan Sr.
Compiled by Dave Webb. Additions and corrections by Steve Morgan, descendent, 10-Feb-2003.

BIOGRAPHY: Information from Delbert Argyle, descendant, Nov. 12, 2000:
I propose that Rueben Morgan may have inherited the residue of the original grant to Thomas Morgan, which is why he remained in Newberry. As the oldest son it would have been his responsibility to look after the widow of his younger brother.

BIOGRAPHY: Indians kidnapped Reuben when he was young in Virginia (this story has not been authenticated though).

BIOGRAPHY: Appointed overseer of Roads in the July 1793 term of the minutes of the
Court of Newberry County, South Carolina. That October, he was ordered by the Chancery Court to oversee the building of a road from Creeks old store to Big Creek. Later the court ordered that he finish the road building for John Waits who was an overseer for another part of the road.

BIOGRAPHY: Reuben was also a land owner. It is a matter of public record that Reuben, Sr. deeded land to Daniel Smith in 1822 and in 1829, before his death, he deed land to Reuben, Jr., which became his inheritance upon Reuben, Sr.'s death in 1829. The deed stated, "to my son, Reuben Morgan, for love and affection and for the trouble and care he is to take of me in my declining years."

BIOGRAPHY: $2125.13 was divided up from his estate, with about a third going to his widow Elizabeth and the rest going to his children. Reuben Morgan, Jr. claimed no money and stated that he was satisfied with the land he received.

BIOGRAPHY: Subpoenaed to appear in court in Nov. 3 1807 to give evidence on the part of the plaintiff William Nichols (plaintiff in an inheritance case). Reuben had a statement recorded that survives.
