MARRIAGE: The marriage of Jacques Selam and Marie Magadelene may have
occurred in Louisiana, but there are no marriage records for the years
1733-1759 (the result of a destructive fire in 1786 in which a number of
the St Louis Cathedral registers were destroyed).
BIOGRAPHY: The tradition says that Jacques Selam and his (future?) wife
Marie Magdalene Goleur settled in Louisiana under the auspices of John
Law. This would therefore mean that they went there between 1718 and
1730. (We found a Jacques Selamme aboard the "Elephant" in 1720.) Since
their only known child, Marguerite, was born in 1750, this probably means
that they got married in Louisiana.
BIRTH: Since Jacques Selam probably travelled to Louisiana in 1720
(aboard the "Elephant", see http://plauche.bingen.org/selamj.html), we
can estimate that he was born around 1700.
